United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) scheduled for 17th to 24th this month.
The Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Tourism Najib Balala on Tuesday 12th July 2016 handed over the KICC, host venue for the Conference to the Cabinet Secretary Ambassador. Dr Amina Mohamed, Ministry of Foreign Affairs who further handed it over to UNCTAD Secretary General Dr Mukhisa Kituyi and other members of the secretariat in readiness for the conference.
During the handover ceremony both Cabinet Secretaries expressed their gratitude and pride that this historic event marks the second time Kenya is hosting the UNCTAD conference after 40 years when it first held the 4th session of the conference at the same facility.
‘Kenya will once again be in the international limelight, standing tall, as we host the 14th Conference of UNCTAD. We take pride in this opportunity to play host to more than 6000 delegates who will congregate here as we discuss trade and development issues that will translate global decisions into actions. Today we stand on the same grounds that hosted a similar conference 40 years ago. This facility stands even taller in terms of its grandeur to host international conferences’ said Amb Amina.
The ceremonial ‘key’ to KICC was handed over by Ambassador Amina to the UNCTAD Secretary General Dr Mukhisa Kituyi and his fellow members of the secretariat, marking KICC as official United Nations grounds for the UNCTAD conference.
“KICC is prepared and ready to host the conference once again. This facility has been host to high profile international conferences and is ready to host the Tokyo International Conference on Trade and Development (TICAD) this coming month and other conferences that we are currently bidding to host” stated the KICC Acting Managing Director Ms. Nana Gecaga.
