CS Amb. Amina briefing on Upcoming International Trade Conferences

The Cabinet Secretary, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amb. Amina Mohamed held a press conference on 30th June to appraise the public on the State of Preparedness to host the upcoming global Trade conferences; The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Amb. Amina assured Kenyans of the Government readiness to host the two high profile conferences that will take place in July and August this year.

“The main purpose of this initial briefing session, is to bring on board the Media fraternity and all other national stakeholders in Kenya, to join hands with the Government, in ensuring that we once again, demonstrate to the global community our capacity to host such important international forums” said Amb. Amina

UNCTAD which will take place in July 17th to 22nd is expected to attract over 7,000 delegates to Kenya including a number of Presidents and top business executives.

TICAD on the other hand will take place on 27th to 28th of August this year and will have over 6,000 delegates from all the 54 African countries including numerous African Presidents.

Amb. Amina said that the two Trade conferences will affirm Kenya’s position as a safe and secure destination for Investment, Tourism and Trade. She further said that UNCTAD (XIV) will build on the decisions of the UNCTAD (IV) which was hosted here in Kenya in 1976.

The UNCTAD Conference will include the following fora;


  1. World Leaders Summit and the 5th World Investment Forum, 17th -20th July 2016
  2. 7th Global Commodities Forum, 15th-16th July 2016,
  3. Civil Society Forum, 15th -17th July 2016,
  4. Regional group meetings-G77 Ministerial meeting, 15th -17th July 2016,
  5. And Finally, Youth Forum, 19th -21st July 2016.
